Lauryn Etienne tossed a complete-game two-hitter to lead the Oregon softball team to a season-opening 8-1 victory against Baraboo in a Badger West Conference game on Monday, April 4, in Baraboo.
Baraboo scored once in the first and then Etienne tossed six shutout innings. Etienne finished with two hits, no earned runs and five strikeouts.
After trailing 1-0, the Panthers responded with three runs in both the second and third innings. Oregon added two scores in the top of the fourth inning.
Leadoff hitter Kate Davis led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-for-4 to go along with two RBIs and a pair of runs. Davis connected on a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to give Oregon its 8-1 lead.
Hailey Richter also homered in the win, with her two-run home run breaking a 1-1 tie in the top of the second. The home run scored Carly Zych, who joined Davis as Oregon players to finish with multiple hits. She went 2-for-3 at the plate to go along with a run and a RBI. Both of Zych’s hits were doubles.
Oregon outhit Baraboo 8-2 and committed just one error. Etienne, Jordan Baumgartner, Hailey Berman and Brooke Bastian also scored in the victory.
