The Madison Edgewood baseball team won five of its last six games from the start of May to May 9.
The Crusaders (11-6, 6-6 Badger West) averaged 8.6 runs per game during that stretch. Edgewood’s lone loss came against Baraboo in a Badger West Conference game on Tuesday, May 2.
Also during that stretch, Edgewood earned a 12-7 Badger Conference victory over defending Division 1 state champion Milton on May 1.
The Crusaders beat Portage 6-3 on Tuesday, May 9, in Portage. Edgewood’s Steffen Mello’s three-run double sparked a five-run fourth inning.
Boys golf
The Madison Edgewood boys golf team had the top three golfers en route to cruising to a Badger West mini-meet win on Tuesday, May 9, at Baraboo Country Club.
Senior Zeke Boos won medalist honors with a 72. Seniors Alex Weiss and Finn Jaeger carded scores of 75 and 78, respectively. Those cards were good for second and third.
Edgewood will compete at the Badger West Conference meet on May 17 at Wild Rock Golf Club.
Boys tennis
The Madison Edgewood boys tennis team is ranked No. 8 in the Wisconsin High School Tennis Coaches Association’s Week 4 rankings. Brookfield Academy is ranked No. 1, while Xavier owns the No. 2 spot.
Softball
After losing five of its last six games, the Edgewood softball team earned a bounce-back win over Portage in Badger West action on Tuesday, May 9.
The Crusaders toppled the Warriors 10-2 in Badger West action. Edgewood was coming off a 10-1 conference victory over Mount Horeb on Friday, May 5.
Against Portage, Grace Nwankwo homered and drove in four runs. Lexie Koch had three RBIs off a pair of hits to go along with two runs scored.
Track and field
The Edgewood girls and boys placed sixth and eighth, respectively, at the Spartan Invitational on Friday, May 5, in Madison. The Crusader girls scored 57 points, while the boys finished with 45 points.
Senior Nick Gehring won the 400-meter dash (48.92).
