Fitchburg police March 2020

Police squads lined up outside of the police station.

A City of Fitchburg police officer received “minor injuries” during an attempted arrest on March 1.

Around 6:15 p.m. on March 1, Fitchburg officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on the 4500 block of Thurston Lane, a news release from the City of Fitchburg police department stated. Upon arrival, police made contact with Edgar G. Ceballos Alfaro, who had refused to cooperate and resisted being detained; during the struggle, an officer received minor injuries and was later taken to a local hospital for treatment, the release states.

The Star is choosing to name the man because the charges initially referred for him fall under the category of a felony. Injuring a police officer is a Class H felony under state law.

Ceballos Alfaro was taken to the Dane County Jail, and police referred charges of resisting and obstructing officers causing a soft tissue injury and attempting to disarm a peace officer.
