Art, food, music and fun at Agora Art Fair
The Fitchburg Agora Art Fair Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. with artists spread throughout the Agora Grounds at 5500 East Cheryl Parkway. 

The second annual festival will also have food, drinks, and art activities for kids.

Cimino retires after 32 years with Parks
After more than three decades, Dan Cimino is ready to make the outdoors a hobby rather a job.

Cimino, retired in June as Fitchburg's Parks and Forestery maintenance supervisor. After 32 years with the department, he said the diversity of tasks his position encompasses help “keeps you fresh."

Splash pad plan sticks, moves to 2012

The Fitchburg Common Council narrowly agreed last month to plan on paying $235,000 toward a splash pad, which would resemble the feature in Middleton’s Lakeview Park.

The city would ask the Optimist Club to pick up the remaining estimated $225,000, mostly from donations. The council also moved the project to 2012 and stipulated that no construction could begin until all of the funds are accounted for.

When blackbirds attack
There's an unlikely villain in Fitchburg. A common species of bird near Military Ridge State Trail has occasionally been reacting adversely to runners and other trail goers.

The red-winged black bird, known for it's territorial nature, has been known to attack pedestrians and bikers who make there way down the Fitchburg portion of the trail and somehow make the bird feel threatened.

Sugar Maple music festival returns to Lake Farm Park this weekend
Murdock, president of the board of directors of the Four Lakes Traditional Music Collective, the group that organizes the Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival, said it was at Hiawatha that he and a group of friends began talking seriously about organizing a music festival in the Madison area.

They started having meetings and figured out what it took to become a nonprofit corporation. “We knew nothing about any of this stuff,” he said. “We were just people who liked to play and listen to music. And so it just went from there.”
