Fitchburg man arrested for 5th OWI

A Fitchburg man was arrested in downtown Madison Friday night and charged with 5th-offense Operating While Intoxicated.

Robert Mueller, 48, was observed driving with a defective tail light by a UW-Madison police officer near the intersection of South Park Street and West Washington Avenue around 11 p.m., according to a news relese from the UW-Madison Police Department.

The officer noticed an odor of intoxicants and Mueller's bloodshot eyes, the release said, and Mueller told the officer he had consumed beer.

A preliminary breath test indicated the driver's Blood Alcohol Content was .268, over the legal limit of .08.

Mueller was booked into the Dane County Jail for the felony charge.
