Fitchburg police chase car through Madison, Middleton until suspect crashes

Fitchburg Police followed a suspect through the City of Madison and apprehended her in Middleton after initially making contact with a suspicious vehicle in Fitchburg.

Police first located the suspicious vehicle, driven by Shannon R. Patterson, 28, of Janesville, at the Mobil Gas Station on Fish Hatchery Road just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, according to a Fitchburg news release distributed Wednesday.

Police directed a passenger to exit the vehicle, which the passenger did, the release said. The driver, however, put the vehicle into reverse and accelerated quickly, hitting the officer and passenger and knocking both to the ground. After ramming a squad car twice and knocking off the vehicle’s own rear bumper, Patterson fled before being spotted by another Fitchburg officer on the frontage road off the Beltline.

Patterson eventually crashed on Gammon and Fortune Road and had to be extricated from her car and taken to a local hospital with “serious” but non-life threatening injuries, the release said. The officer and passenger struck by Patterson earlier were treated and released from the hospital.

Police have forwarded charges of two counts of reckless endangerment, OWI causing injury, fleeing an officer, parole violation, obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
