Police arrest armed robbery suspect
Police arrested a suspect in a Thursday armed robbery at a Radio Shack in Fitchburg.
Police tracked footsteps in the snow to find Robert Avery, 21, of Madison, according to a news release from the Fitchburg Police Department. Avery is being held on a probation violation and more charges are expected, the release said. The department is not looking for any additional suspects.
A Radio Shack employee called police at 10:25 a.m. after the robbery and told them an individual had come into the store, displayed a handgun and demanded property before fleeing.
Officers followed footsteps in the snow to the 2900 block of Traceway Drive in Madison, where they found the handgun and stolen property in a Dumpster. They then searched Avery's residence for evidence of the robbery and later arrested Avery.
