Yahara Materials representatives will hold an informational public meeting Wednesday on a proposed limestone quarry on Grandview Road.

The proposed quarry would be located on the Robert and Nancy Wolf property at 6194 Grandview Road.

Yahara Materials superintendent and manager Tim Geoghegan said the quarry would be a “maximum” of 20 acres at a time and would consist of multiple phases.

The meeting, at 6 p.m. at the Fitchburg Fire Station at 5791 Lacy Road, will include traffic studies and other specifics on the proposal, Geoghegan said.

“We’ve found, in the past, that it tends to make everything go a lot smoother because you can answer a lot more questions for people in an informal setting than you can in a public hearing setting,” he said.

The company has not made a formal proposal to city officials yet, city planner/zoning administrator Tom Hovel said. Hovel said when the company approached the city about the idea, city officials asked the company to hold a public meeting first so that concerns expressed could be included in its proposal.

Yahara Materials would be the fourth quarry operator in the city, joining Wingra, Hammersley and Payne and Dolan.
