College informational workshop is Oct. 1
Longtime Verona High School teacher and counselor Brenda Ward has formed an independent counseling business, Brenda Ward Consulting. As part of her services, Ward will be hosting a free informational workshop at local libraries for students and parents.
The workshop, “How to Write College Essays and Conquer the Common College Application,” will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, at the Fitchburg Public Library, and Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Verona Public Library.
Both programs begin at 6:30 p.m. In addition, Brenda Ward Consulting offers individualized guidance for college and career success to help students transition to the “next good place,” whether it be selecting the optimum fit for continued formal education, beginning employment or internship. The new venture offers a full menu of services including: sophomore and junior pre-college planning, creating a college option list, managing and completing applications, essay planning, editing and review, applying for financial aid and researching scholarships and exploring careers and conducting job searches.
During her more than 30 years in the public school system, Ward recorded many achievements. She has been named Outstanding Professional of the Year by the Wisconsin Association of College Admission Counselors, representative to ACT’s Wisconsin Executive Council, delegate to the UW-System Competency-Based Admission Steering Committee and representative to the WISCareers Advisory Council. She is a certified Global Career Facilitator and a member of the National Association of College Admission Counselors, Independent Educational Consultants Association and National Career Development Association.
